Section 5.4 Murdoch Conventions for Content Preparation

Section 5.4.10 Privacy Convention

The Murdoch Privacy Convention to be practised in the preparation of Content includes:

  • the use of a privacy statement
  • including a link to an official privacy notice.

Privacy Statement

The metadata that accompanies Content shall include a privacy statement. The privacy statement shall link to a privacy notice. This notice should allow an end-user to determine how the University will deal with personal information related to the Content and use of its Web sites.

Privacy Notice

The University shall provide an official Web Sites Privacy Notice authorised by the Director, Office of Information Technology Services. The Web Sites Privacy Notice shall include a link to this Policy.

The Web Sites Privacy Notice shall include information about:

  1. Personal information collected
  2. Use of personal information
  3. Disclosure of personal information
  4. The process for complaints and qeries about privacy.

META Tag Used to Describe Privacy Status

The metadata that accompanies Content shall include the use of:

  • The META tag ‘MU.Privacy’ to identify Content that may involve the collection and use of personal information.

Document Information Footers

The metadata that accompanies Content shall include the use of document information footers or metadata popups accessed by a link on a page titled Page Information. The footer or popup display shall include a privacy statement.

The privacy statement shall:

  • provide a link to the official University Web Sites Privacy Notice.
