Section 4 SERVER MANAGEMENT

Section 4.9 Responsibility for Web Servers

Section 4.9.10 MurdochNet Coordinator

To facilitate the administration tasks related to MurdochNet, the Office of Information Technology Services shall assign a person the role of MurdochNet Coordinator.

The MurdochNet Coordinator shall be responsible for:

(1) coordinating the registration of Web Servers run on computers managed by Murdoch University

(2) approving use of alternate ports to 80 and 443 prior to the registration of Web Servers

(3) liaising with Web Administrators and Web Liaison Officers re the assignment of appropriate aliases to be used when registering MurdochNet Servers

(4) coordinating the application for use of, allocation of, and approval of Murdoch sub-domains

(5) liaising with staff in the Communications Service section of the Office of Information Technology Services re the use of aliases that are based on approved sub-domains

(6) coordinating the application for use of, and approval of alternate domain names

(7) liaising with the Director, Office of Information Technology Services re the approval of alternate domains

(8) liaising with staff in the Communications Services section of the Office of Information Technology Services to ensure that approved Web Server aliases are added to the University’s Domain Name Server and that obsolete ones are removed

(9) maintaining Server registration records of assigned aliases, including additional aliases, changes to the preferred alias for a Server, the swapping of aliases from one computer host to another and coordinating the retirement of Web Server aliases.

(10) maintaining Server registration records of approved Murdoch sub-domains and alternate domain names

(11) maintaining Server registration records of Web Servers to be indexed by the Campus Search Engine robot

(12) maintaining Server registration records of Web Administrators associated with Web Servers

(13) assigning priority levels to Web Servers to be used in the automated monitoring of Servers for availability

(14) maintaining a listing of Servers and services to be checked by operations staff, Computer Services, during weekends, the Christmas shutdown period and in the event of extended network outage

(15) creating new user groups for organisation units or resource areas that require user accounts for Content Providers on the Central MurdochNet Server used to provide a Content development environment

(16) creating user accounts for those persons who have completed an application form and been authorised to use an account on the Central MurdochNet Server used to provide a Content development environment

(17) ensuring that user accounts that are no longer required are deleted as part of a regular review of user accounts on the Central MurdochNet Server used to provide a Content development environment.
