Section 4 SERVER MANAGEMENT

Section 4.7 Backup (Hardware, Software, Data) of Web Servers

Section 4.7.1 Backup Guidelines for Computers Used to Run Web Servers

The Computer Services section, Office of Information Technology Services shall make available backup guidelines for computers used to run Web Servers. The guidelines to include the backup of Web Server software, software applications and Content.

The guidelines shall recommend practices such as:

(a) The use of backup tape devices with the computers used to run Web Servers.

(b) The appropriate number of tapes to hold and for what length of time.

(c) The use of appropriate physical locations to house backup tapes, eg. a separate location to the computer, or another campus.

(d) The use of software solutions such as mirroring.

All computers used to run Central MurdochNet Servers shall comply with existing standards for the backup of centrally-managed strategic application systems and with the Backup Guidelines for Computers Used to Run Web Servers.

All MurdochNet Servers and Affiliated Web Servers that are authorised to perform the role of Internet Content Host shall comply with the Backup Guidelines for Computers Used to Run Web Servers.

It is recommended that all other MurdochNet Servers and Affiliated Web Servers should also comply with the Backup Guidelines for Computers Used to Run Web Servers.
