Section 4.3 Alternate Domain Names

Section 4.3.3 Authorising an Application to Use an Alternate Domain Name

An application to associate an approved alternate domain name with a Web Server shall be authorised by either the Head of Division for the organisation unit or resource area that the applying body (ie. institution, organisation, association, conference, publication, project or competition) is recognised as being associated with, or for areas of the University without a Head of Division (eg. the Murdoch University Guild of Students), affiliated institutions, and other bodies with close demonstrable links to the University, by the nominated member of the Senior Executive.

When authorising an application to associate an approved alternate domain name with a Web Server, a Head of Division, or the nominated member of the Senior Executive, shall be satisfied that:

  • the use of the proposed Affiliated Web Server shall be consistent with the University’s mission and the goals of MurdochNet (as defined in Section 2.1)
  • the proposed alternate domain name reflects the name of the applying body
  • the format of the alternate domain name is acceptable (eg. www.parkercentre.com.au – The Parker Cooperative Research Centre for Integrated Hydrometallurgy Solutions).
  • the IP address to which the alternate domain name will be tied has been approved by IT Services
  • the Content Categories to be hosted on the Affiliated Web Server complies with the MurdochNet Policy
  • the expected life of the site to be hosted on the Affiliated Web Server is consistent with its stated purpose
  • the Affiliated Web Server should perform the role of Internet Content Host.

In conjunction with authorising an Affiliated Web Server, a Head of Division, or the nominated member of the Senior Executive, shall be satisfied that the organisation (such as those listed in Section 4.1.4 Server Registration and Authorisation Variations) that is to use the Affiliated Web Server for hosting its Content, has entered into a formal agreement with the University for use of the University’s Internet Content Hosting Service. The agreement shall use the University’s Internet Content Hosting Service Deed and include relevant details as described in Schedule 2 Contracts.
