Section 4 SERVER MANAGEMENT

Section 4.3 Alternate Domain Names

Section 4.3.1 Applying to Use an Alternate Domain Name

The use of an alternate domain name in association with a Web Server may be requested by one of the following:

  • an educational institution or organisation, including an affiliated institution
  • an institution or organisation owned fully, or in part by the University
  • an organisation or project in which the University is a participant
  • a state or national consortium of which the University is a member
  • a publication, project, or competition sponsored by the University
  • an organisation with a recognised association with the University
  • other bodies with which the University has close demonstrable links
  • a professional organisation, association, or conference that the University has agreed to support by hosting Content.

A request to associate an alternate domain name with aWeb Server shall be initiated by an applicant representing a body (ie. an institution, organisation, association, conference, publication, project, competition). The applicant shall:

(1) determine that their preferred alternate domain name is available for registration with an accredited registration service (eg. AUNIC < http://www.aunic.net.au/ >)

(2) liaise with the Web Administrator responsible for the Server that will use the alternate domain name.

The applicant, as a Murdoch staff or student, shall then use the Server Registration System to initiate a registration request. The Web Administrator responsible for the Server shall approve the request to use an alternate domain and then submit the request to associate the alternate domain name with a Web Server for authorisation.
