Section 3.4.8 Non-Compliant Content

The following types of Non-Compliant Content may put the University’s good name and image at risk and could contribute to a situation of legal liability for the University.

(1) Failure to meet the requirements of laws such as those listed in Section 5.3.2Section 5.3.2 Australian & Western Australian Legislation.

(2) Failure to comply with University legislation and polices as listed in Section 5.3.3.

(3) Providing inaccurate information within Content, or failing to maintain the currency of information within Content.

(4) Non-compliance with the Murdoch Conventions for Content Preparation as listed in Section 5.4.

(5) Non-compliance with the Murdoch Guidelines for Content Preparation (eg. misuse of, or failure to use elements of the University’s Corporate Style; inconsistent navigation within and between Content; inappropriate or missing metadata such as keywords and description of Content; unarchived Content).

Any Content that could reasonably be considered to not comply with Content preparation standards, guidelines and conventions, should, in the first instance, be reported to the person responsible for authorising the Content.

Where no statement of authorisation is readily available (ie. included with Content), the Content should be reported to the Web Liaison Officer (or Web Administrator) for the respective organisation unit or resource area.

Should the Web Liaison Officer (or Web Administrator) fail to take the necessary steps to modify Content to minimise the risk to the University, including legal liability of the University, then the Non-Compliant Content should be reported to the Director, Office of Information Technology Services.

The Director, Office of Information Technology Services shall consult with the appropriate University officer(s). These officers may include, but not be limited to:

  • Copyright Coordinator
  • Director, Internal Audit and Risk Management
  • Director, Office of Corporate Communications and Public Relations
  • Director, Office of Development and Alumni
  • Equity Coordinator
  • General Counsel
  • Guild President
  • IT Security Manager
  • Web Coordinator.

Where the Director determines that the non-compliant Content presents an unacceptable risk to the University, and that appropriate steps should be taken by the University to resolve the situation, then the steps taken may include:

(i) an instruction from the Vice Chancellor that the Content be modified or removed

(ii) the modification of Content by a designated University officer (eg. IT Security Manager)

(iii) the removal of Content from a Server by a designated University officer (eg. IT Security Manager)

(iv) the blocking, via the University’s DNS (or other mechanisms), of the IP used by the Server that hosts or provides access to the Non-Compliant Content.

A form for reporting Non-Compliant Content is included in Schedule 1 Forms of this Policy.
