Section 2.2 Boundary of MurdochNet

Section 2.2.1 Servers

In the context of MurdochNet, the term Server refers to a Web Server. Servers are usually run on computers that use IP addresses registered by the University and used for the Murdoch University Network.

It is recognised that Web Servers may be:

  1. used to host Content
  2. used to provide access to other computers running Web-based applications or programs, or hosting databases for the generation of dynamic Content
  3. Virtual Servers, several of which may be running on the same physical host computer
  4. accessible via approved alternate domain names (ie. domain names other than murdoch.edu.au).

To facilitate the management of Web Servers run on computers on the Murdoch University Network, all Servers run by organisational units or resource areas, shall have associated with them a person who has been assigned the role of Web Administrator.
