Alumni Regulations

Membership

1. Alumni become members of the Association by submitting a completed Alumni Association Membership form to the Alumni Centre.
 

Chapters

2. The Alumni Board may set a minimum number of members for recognition as a Chapter of the Association.
 
3. A person who has graduated in two courses which are in different Schools, or in a course which is offered by two Schools, is entitled to belong to either School Chapter.
 
4. Chapters may set and retain their own fees or charges.
 
5. Each chapter shall conduct its own election for a member of the Alumni Board, at a time and in a manner determined by the Chapter. The terms of elected members shall be for two calendar years. Where a Chapter is formed after 1 January 2004, the term of the first Board member elected by that chapter shall commence on 1 January of the following year.
 
6. A Chapter may be an incorporated or unincorporated body.
 
7. The Alumni Board may recognise International Chapters based in a particular country or in a region of an overseas country. International Chapters shall not elect any members of the Board. Members of International Chapters may also be members of School Chapters, and vote in School Chapter elections to the Board.
 

Alumni Board

8. The Alumni Board shall be established on 1 January 2004. It shall meet at least twice each year. The quorum for meetings shall be one half the members.
 
9. The Board shall elect a Deputy President from among the alumni members of the Board. The Deputy President shall chair the Board in the absence of the President, and may be deputised by the President to act on her or his behalf on other occasions. In the absence of both the President and Deputy President, the meeting shall elect a chair from among the members present. The chair of the Board shall have both a deliberative and a casting vote.
 
10. The Board's proceedings shall be regulated by the Standing Orders for Academic Council and Subordinate Bodies, except where an absolute majority of the Board determines otherwise.
 
11. Where an elected member is unable to attend a meeting of the Board, he or she may appoint an alternate member to attend the Board, who has full voting rights. Where a chapter has a management committee, that committee may nominate a person who shall be the alternate.
 
12. In the case of a casual vacancy on the Board, the management committee of the Chapter shall appoint a replacement for the remainder of the former member's term of office.
