University Elections - Students

Interested in making a difference at Murdoch? Interested in making a difference at Murdoch?

In September of this year, an election will be held for a range of student positions on University Committees, including the Senate and Academic Council.

The Senate is the University's primary governing body with responsibilities that include setting the strategic framework for the University and monitoring of performance against this framework. Academic Council is the principal decision making body on academic matters and academic policies within the University. There are also positions on a range of committees whose work feeds into the academic decision making process at a number of levels.

For any students who may be considering standing as a candidate, it is planned to hold an information session with the President of Academic Council and the General Counsel & University Secretary, to provide an overview of what University governance entails.

If you are interested in becoming actively involved in the future of Murdoch University, but unsure of what Senate, Council or Committee membership entails, please contact the Manager, Secretariat, Ms Trudi McGlade at T.McGlade@murdoch.edu.au to register your interest in attending this session. A date and time will be arranged once levels of interest have been ascertained.

Advice for Candidates

  • You should read carefully the Campaign material rules and Election Regulations on this website. If you are contesting any of the Guild positions, you should also read the Guild Election Regulations.

  • The Returning Officer cannot tell you who else has nominated until nominations have closed. All they can say is how many people have nominated for any particular position.

  • Check your email at least once a day. The Returning Officer will be using email as the main way to contact candidates. The Returning Officer can be contacted at elections@murdoch.edu.au.
