University Elections - Staff

How to vote

Electronic Voting

You will need to log in to the electronic voting system using your Murdoch username and password.

The ballots for which you are eligible to vote will be shown in a drop down menu on the voting page. This is based on the information contained in the voter roll for this election, compiled in the same manner as for paper based ballots and used only for the purpose of this election.

Postal Voting

If it is determined that an election will be held by way of paper based ballot, voting papers will be sent to you at your Murdoch University office address, for you to complete and return by internal mail. They are sent at least 14 days before the close of voting.

Voting is by full-time staff. This is defined as permanent and temporary staff who are on contracts 50% or more full-time.

Along with the voting paper, you will be sent voting instructions and the statements provided by the candidates.

To register a valid vote, you must:

  • enter 1 in the box beside the candidate who is your first preference, 2 against your second preference, and so on. The voting system is optional preferential, so you do not need to indicate preferences against all candidates. Preferences must be indicated by numbers (not just a tick or cross).

  • place the completed voting paper in the brown envelope marked "Voting Paper", seal it, then place it in the white envelope addressed to the Returning Officer.

  • complete and sign the declaration on the reverse of the envelope. The vote is not valid if the declaration is not completed.

  • place it in the internal mail in time for it to be received by the Returning Officer by the close of voting. The Returning Officer is not allowed to accept any voting papers received after then.

Sometimes elections for Senate and Academic Council are held concurrently, using one voting paper on which staff can vote for one body and then the other.
