Murdoch University has recently developed an electronic voting system for use in student and staff elections. The system is modelled on programs in use at other Australian universities.

This is a significant initiative that will allow for more efficient administration of elections – less paper, less staff time and less expense is involved in running the electronic system.

The system has been designed to meet the strict requirements of the Election Regulations. Votes, once cast, are entirely de-identified, so that it is not possible for any person to determine how a particular elector cast their vote. Vote counting is run through a separate program, and is not commenced until an election is closed.
