Murdoch University Art Collection
Murdoch University's art collection began in 1974, the University's foundation year, and the collection has since developed as an integral part of the Univerity's history.
The art collection has now expanded to contain a rich variety of works in various media, including sculpture, paintings, drawings and limited edition prints. By providing artwork which reflects the creative vitality and diversity of contemporary Australian visual culture it contributes to the educational and research enterprise of the University and those of the wider community.
As a university based public collection its aim is to collect high quality works which stimulate, inspire and provoke thought, and add to the store of human knowledge. The collection mirrors Murdoch University's values emphasizing diversity, human values and sustainable solutions to contemporary issues.
Many of the collection's pieces have been donated to the University by artists and collectors who wish to contribute to the development of the University and its collection. The pieces are carefully housed, conserved and exhibited throughout the Univerisity's public spaces so they can inspire, intrigue and delight the many students, staff and community members who experience them.
Gifts of art to the Art Collection can be accepted under the Government's Cultural Gifts program which entitles the donor to a tax deduction to the market value of the artwork. You can also make a financial gift to be used to acquire new pieces of art for the collection.
