Posted 15th February 2017
Following the passing of our well respected and internationally renowned colleague, Professor Susan Moore, Murdoch University is establishing a new prize the “Susan Moore Memorial Prize in Nature-Based Tourism” in her honour. Professor Susan Moore created and led the Nature Based Tourism Research Group and won awards for her teaching and research achievements during her 21 year career at Murdoch.
Susan’s colleagues remember her as a determined advocate for, and supporter of, early career researchers. She was also a collegial, inclusive academic who displayed great respect and empathy towards all her co-workers. She was dedicated to developing the people she worked with and was an amazing mentor to many women and men at the University.
Susan was also highly regarded by her peers internationally and gained a reputation as being an innovative, multi-disciplinary researcher. She was extremely prolific, publishing more than 100 articles, chapters, reports and books, including the best-selling academic works, “Natural Area Tourism: Ecology, Impacts and Management”, and “Wildlife Tourism”.
The prize will commemorate Susan Moore’s contributions to environmental science and tourism and inspire students to high achievement in the unit “Nature-Based Tourism”.
