Supporting our Uni

Health in Motion

Murdoch University has developed a project to work in partnership with the local Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services based in the Pilbara so that together Aboriginal Health is put into Aboriginal Hands.

‘Health in Motion’ is a supplementary human health and veterinary care service, which will also provide health education to Aboriginal people living in remote communities in the Pilbara.

It involves final year health, veterinary and other students travelling to the Pilbara to work with Aboriginal Health Workers to deliver health services under supervision and health education sessions via a mobile health and education unit which incorporates a double trailer- one with accommodation for students and one with a custom-built health unit with state of the art facilities including telehealth.

The Health in Motion project brochure provides further details.

It is based on a key recommendation from a two-year Health and Education Needs Analysis carried out by Murdoch University’s School of Health Professions and School of Education researchers.

Murdoch University has already received significant support for Health in Motion, including a significant funding partnership with Gumala Aboriginal Corporation.

We are seeking project and funding partners for this transformative pilot project that will commence operations in February 2018. See the Final Report.
