Production animal owners

Exposing veterinary students to production animal work is a vital part of their university life. Australia is experiencing a crisis in the availability of rurally-oriented vets, and Murdoch aims to help address this deficit.

Despite our urban setting, Murdoch University Veterinary Hospital has an onsite veterinary farm and offers a comprehensive farm animal support service, not only to metropolitan hobby farmers but also to regional herds and flocks.

We offer herd health schemes in dairy cattle and beef cattle, and also flock health services for sheep, goats and pigs.

Alpacas have also become an increasingly important part of our service and their ‘crias’ (babies) have been known to stay in our small animal ICU on occasion when they are critically ill. In these cases our small animal ICU clinicians have worked together with our production animal vets for the positive outcomes we all aim for regardless of species.
