Surgery services

Our facilities and up-to-date surgical equipment coupled with integrated support from world-class anaesthesia, intensive care, and medicine sections means that your pet receives a very high standard of care across all aspects of surgical management.

We provide expertise in both Soft tissue/Oncologic surgery and Orthopedic/Neurosurgery. Our oncologic surgeons work closely with the Murdoch Animal Cancer Care Unit so that your pet receives a multidisciplinary approach to achieve the best possible outcome.

You may have been referred to one of those services by your veterinarian if your pet requires any of the following treatments;

Soft tissue/Oncologic surgery

  • Laparoscopy - prophylactic gastropexy, ovariohysterectomy, exploratory and laparoscopic assisted biopsies, laparoscopic assisted cystotomy
  • Thoracoscopy - exploration and biopsy, pericardectomy
  • Complex thoracic surgery - lung lobectomy, vascular ring anomalies, oesophageal disease, pleural disease/effusion, chylothorax
  • Vascular surgery - PDA, intra and extrahepatic portosystemic shunts
  • Upper airway surgery - brachycephalic airway syndrome, laryngeal paralysis, nasal disease, permanent tracheostomy
  • Abdominal surgery - liver/splenic mass resections, adrenalectomy, gastrointestinal resections, pancreatic disease, biliary obstruction, cholecystectomy (gall bladder mucocele, rupture), peritonitis
  • Complex wound management - trauma, bite wounds
  • Complex cancer resections - mandibulectomy/maxillectomy, chest wall reconstruction
  • Plastic and reconstructive surgeries - large mass excision, herniorraphy (perineal, body wall, diaphragmatic, peritoneal-pericardial, inguinal)
  • Urogenital - ectopic ureters, kidney and bladder neoplasia, urolithiasis, urethral obstruction and urethrostomy, prostatic abscesses/cysts
  • Head and neck surgery - total ear canal ablation, mucoceles, nasopharyngeal disease, middle ear disease, head and neck tumors
  • Limb sparing procedures for bone cancer
  • Full adjunctive chemotherapy and monitoring

Orthopaedic/Neurosurgery

  • Arthroscopy for joint disease - elbow, shoulder, stifle
  • Total hip replacements (cemented and uncemented)
  • TPLO procedures for cranial cruciate ligament rupture including arthroscopic joint inspection
  • Ring fixator dynamic treatment of growth deformities
  • Complex fracture repairs
  • Minimally invasive fracture repair
  • Canine sports injury treatment
  • Lameness management
  • Myelography and CT diagnostic imaging - joint disease, spinal disease
  • Spinal decompression and stabilisation surgical procedures - intervertebral disc disease, spinal neoplasia, spinal fractures, cauda equine, AA luxation, cervical spondylopathy, spinal fractures
  • 24 hour intensive nursing care for paralysed patients

 

Emergency surgery

  • Our surgeons provide a 24 hour / 365 days a year emergency surgical service through the Murdoch Pet Emergency Centre.
