Ophthalmology - eye care
The Ophthalmology Clinic at Murdoch University Veterinary Hospital is run by Dr Zigrida Chester and provides a referral service for the diagnosis and treatment of eye disease in companion animals primarily dogs, cats and horses.
To make an appointment at the Murdoch University Veterinary Hospital, you will need to make sure your vet has completed the online referral form, or the PDF version which you can bring with you or your vet can email or fax to us.
Referral is not necessary for dog breeders requiring routine pre-breeding eye examinations.
The clinic deals with the diagnosis and treatment of with a wide range of ocular conditions including hereditary eye disease, traumatic eye injuries, corneal ulcers, acquired infectious and immune-mediated ocular conditions, cataracts and glaucoma. Microsurgical procedures such as corneal grafts and cataract surgery are regularly undertaken.
Signs of ocular ill health
The signs of ocular ill health include a red, cloudy, discharging or squinting eye/s. In other cases the eye may seem to be normal in appearance but it may be noticed that there is a deterioration in vision.
Vision loss may be gradual or sudden. Any change in ocular comfort or vision should not be ignored and a veterinary examination should be undertaken as soon as possible.
