Giselle heads our Surgery Section and the Soft tissue/Oncologic Surgery Service.

She joined the small animal surgery team at Murdoch in 2009 after a very distinguished career as a surgeon in the USA at both Purdue University and Louisiana State University.

Giselle graduated from University of Queensland in 1982, and after an internship at Murdoch, moved to the USA and completed her training in small animal surgery. She holds specialist qualifications in small animal surgery from both the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists and the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.

Giselle has an international reputation for her many contributions of groundbreaking clinical research in small animal surgery, and is a highly regarded surgeon and speaker at scientific meetings.

Her main interests in the field of soft tissue and oncologic surgery include abdominal and thoracic surgery, wound reconstruction, airway, urogenital and tumor resection.

Mark is Associate Professor of Small Animal Surgery at the School of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences, Murdoch University and also heads our Orthopaedic/Neurosurgery service.

His principal interests are small animal orthopaedics and veterinary education. He holds a Masters degree in Veterinary Surgery, is a Member of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in small animal surgery, a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons and an RCVS Recognised Small Animal Surgeon.

After graduation Mark worked in small animal practice in Queanbeyan for 11 years before completing his residency in small animal surgery and Masters Degree at Melbourne University. In 1998 he moved to the University of Liverpool and subsequently University College Dublin 2000-2006.

Mark’s main research interests are in the areas of fracture biomechanics and joint disease.

Mark is actively involved in the provision of continuing education to veterinarians nationally and internationally and has presented courses in small animal surgery in Europe, USA, Asia and Australia.

Lucas graduated from the University of Queensland in 2007 and spent the next 12 months completing a rotating internship in a large private referral hospital in Brisbane. He then moved to Adelaide and spent 12 months working as a surgical intern and emergency clinician in a private referral practice as well as teaching veterinary anatomy at the University of Adelaide.

He took up a surgical internship art Murdoch University in 2010 where he was responsible for the assisting in the surgical teaching of the pre-clinical veterinary students as well as completing a Graduate Diploma in Education. In the same year he sat and passed examination to become a member of the Australian college of Veterinary Surgery small animal surgery chapter.

Lucas began a 3 year American College of Veterinary Surgery approved training program in January of 2011 and is undertaking a master’s thesis looking at the biomechanical properties of a locking bone plate and a novel intramedullary implant.

Small Animal Surgery Resident

Tim graduated from the University of Queensland in 2001 with honours and worked in mixed and small animal practice for several years in both Australia and the UK before returning home in 2008 to pursue his dream of becoming a specialist small animal surgeon.

He attained Membership of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in Small Animal Surgery by examination in 2009. In 2010, Tim took up a surgical position with a large private practice group in Perth providing an internal surgical service and continuing education for over 30 veterinarians within the group.

In 2012, Tim completed a 12 month teaching and research internship within the surgery department and in 2013 he commenced an ECVS residency in small animal surgery. His research interests include fracture biomechanics, specifically the use of locking plate-rod constructs for long bone fracture repair. Tim believes strongly in the value of further veterinary education and one day hopes to train the next generation of surgeons.

 Tania graduated from the University of Sydney in 2007 and spent 3 years in general practice in Melbourne. In 2011, she completed a rotating internship in Brisbane, followed by a small animal surgical internship in Melbourne in 2012, before joining the Murdoch University team as our Small Animal Surgery Intern in 2013. Tania aims to complete a 3-year Small Animal Surgery Residency as the next step in achieving her goal of becoming a small animal specialist surgeon. She enjoys all aspects of surgery, however her main interest is in soft tissue surgery
