Small Animal Referral Services - Oncology staff

The Murdoch Animal Cancer Care Unit underwent a transformation in November 2008. It is still a dedicated oncology clinic and is now operated by a new team with a new co-operative structure.

Murdoch Animal Cancer Care Unit is co-ordinated by Dr Fleur James with assistance from key staff within the Medicine and Surgical Departments. This new arrangement facilitates complete cancer patient management.

Dr Fleur James has over six years experience in referral medicine which includes management of medical oncology cases. As well as handling the typical oncology cases that are managed through the Medicine Department, Fleur has spent dedicated time training in this area, including an Oncology Externship at the University of Liverpool.

Fleur is a Fellow of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists (ACVSc) - Small Animal Medicine. Fleur is also a member of the Australian Veterinary Association and Veterinary Cancer Society. Fleur adopts a rigorously scientific yet compassionate approach to cancer care.

Registered Specialist in Small Animal Surgery

Giselle joined the small animal surgery team at Murdoch in 2009 after a very distinguished career as a surgeon in the USA at both Purdue University and Louisiana State University.

Giselle graduated from University of Queensland in 1982, and after an internship at Murdoch, moved to the USA and completed her training in small animal surgery. She holds specialist qualifications in small animal surgery from both the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists and the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.

Giselle has an international reputation for her many contributions in groundbreaking clinical research in small animal surgery, and is a highly regarded surgeon and speaker at scientific meetings.

Giselle heads our Surgery Section and the Soft tissue/Oncologic Surgery Service. She has a particular interest in oncologic surgery, having trained and worked with large oncologic groups in teaching hospitals in the USA. Her main interests are in the field of soft tissue and oncologic surgery with special interest in abdominal and large tumor resection and reconstruction. Giselle is a strong team player and integral to the multi-modality approach to treating disease by the Murdoch University Cancer Care Unit.
