KDU Teach-Out information

Overview

After some 20 years of productive partnership with KDU College (now KDU University College) in Malaysia, both Murdoch University and KDU University College have mutually agreed to:

  • Cease new enrolments into Murdoch University’s Bachelor of Commerce
and Bachelor of Communication courses offered at KDU University College; and
  • Continue to teach existing students in the above-mentioned courses to enable
all currently enrolled students to successfully complete their course.

The relationship between Murdoch University and KDU University College will continue until the end of Semester 1, 2015 to enable an orderly teach-out of the students presently in the Murdoch University Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Communication degrees at KDU University College.

The students to be affected by the decision to teach-out fall into two categories:

  • Students who are expected to complete their studies at the end of semester 2 2012.
  • Students who are continuing their studies beyond semester 2 2012.

Teach-out Plan

The teach-out plan allows for no change to the scheduling of units until the end of semester 1 2015, except in cases where class numbers are so small as to adversely affect learning experience of the student. In all circumstances, in the period leading up to the end of semester 1 2015 and beyond, Murdoch University and KDU University College will operate on a “no detriment to the student” basis to enable the remaining students to complete their degrees.

Students remaining in the system after the end of semester 1 2015 will be given individual advice on completing their degrees.

What will happen if class sizes are too small or if students have not completed their course by the end of semester 1 2015?

All teaching will occur at KDU except where:

  •  the unit is delivered after semester 1 2015; or
  •  the class numbers are so small as to adversely affect the student learning experience.

If this occurs then Murdoch University will offer the students the opportunity to study the relevant unit(s) as an externally-enrolled Murdoch University student. Students will not be required to travel to Perth and the tuition fees will be the same as at KDU University College.
In addition Murdoch University may, on a case-by-case basis, offer:

  • A transfer to Murdoch University South Street campus as a fee-paying international student, subject to meeting visa requirements. The tuition fees will be discounted to match the fees that would have been payable had the same units been delivered at KDU University College; or
  • A Murdoch University alternative pre-approved unit available at KDU University College in the required semester, as a substitute unit; or
  • Course credit award for an alternative pre-approved unit that KDU University College delivers as part of its teaching programs; or
  • Course credit award for an alternative pre-approved unit that an alternative provider delivers as part of its teaching programs;

The Study@Murdoch Program

During the remaining period of the teach-out, Murdoch University students at KDU University College will retain the option to participate in the Study@Murdoch program, which will enable them to study on exchange, at the South Street campus in Perth for one semester at KDU University College tuition fees, subject to meeting visa requirements.
