Ned Wood
Ned acquired me on 29th July 1994. I walked into the Ascot Vet Clinic looking for a mature dog, but they only had a four month old puppy and silly me, I agreed to look at him.
I squatted down to say hello, he jumped up on my knee and claimed me with a kiss.
His first night was spent on his bed, in my bedroom, he had the hiccups all night!!
He was truly an amazing puppy, he learnt everything quickly, didn’t chew anything or dig holes.
We went everywhere, did everything together.
He was very patient with everyone, I walked in to find my very young nephew chewing on his nose, with Ned looking at me saying, “Can you please get rid of it”, not once did he ever try to bite or growl.
When I became very ill, he took looking after me to a new level. He knew he wasn’t allowed to jump up on my bed without permission, but on my worst nights, he would just jump up and curl up next to me, as if to say, “You need me here tonight”. When I collapsed in the middle of the night in the middle of the lounge room, he curled up his back against mine, to keep me warm.
Even at the last, when he was so very sick from spleen liver and stomach cancer, he was still concerned about me, giving me little looks as if to say, “Hey it’s going to be ok, and Oh I’m so sorry for disgracing myself inside”
On the day I said goodbye to my best mate, we did our very favourite thing and went to Forrest
Beach and walked along exploring, searching sniffing, we had a great time.
And as my dear boy went off to a better place, I had the privilege of whispering in his ear how much I loved him and to go off and play with his mates up the big sky paddock.
So thanks Ned, my best friend and mate through all - Kate
