MONTY WRIGHT

08/06/1999 - 28/01/2011

We were guided to take you into our home and into our hearts on the 28-1-2004 after your first Mum passed away. You had been a devoted companion. Your time was spent as close as you could be to the lady, usually beside her on the bed.

I knew on the first night we would become pals after I said I needed a bath. I gathered my night wear, headed for the bathroom to find you sitting in the bath wagging your tail. Why did I say bath, I take showers?

We enrolled you in obedience school when we found walking you was impossible without us finding muscles we didn’t know we had. You were small but extra strong. With training you learned quickly and your happy nature won over trainers and other pets and their owners. You were the star.

The only toy you would play with was a ball. No one was immune from your excited play. We all shared in tossing the ball for you including visitors. You made it seem so much fun.

For awhile it was hard to touch you. You had been talked to like a human but not patted or had your belly rubbed, the belly that was so often on display. Slowly you let us rub your soft ears, then we were allowed to pat our boy. We would ask if you wanted a cuddle, the tail would wag and you run to have the chest tickled. You glowed under this new treatment but the bath time became a time to hide.
Then one day you placed your chin on my knee and began what can only be described as you, patting me, beautiful Monty. This was the first but not the last time you did this.

You loved children so much. We sat in wonder as we watched you stand for an hour because my sleeping great niece had placed her tiny hand over your muzzle. You would not leave her.

So very little has been written about sharing one’s life with a gentle boy who had a big and happy heart.

On the 31-7-2010 both John and Monty were diagnosed with prostrate cancer. Monty was given only a short time and we tried to fit a life time into his and our lives.

Monty passed away on 28-1-2011 exactly 7 years after he claimed our hearts.

Without St Francis Veterinary clinic we would not have had the opportunity to have you Monty in our lives. Many thanks to Drs Pete (ret) Nick and Gavin and staff for being there over the years.

Monty a special place is reserved in our hearts for you.
