In Memory of "Jess"

"Just a Dog"

“He Knew, if he held this little pup in his hands, he would not be able to leave without her”

And there began a Wonderful friendship.

Back in December 1989 Jess became a part of our family, she went to work with my husband everyday, starting out as this tiny Pup following him like a shadow, faithful , obedient.

She never needed a lead, she could cross a freeway and do exactly as she was asked, forever trusting was Jess.

Every Concrete pumper and every Grano worker in Perth, knew Jess, some would throw a stick and some a sandwich, but pity the poor fella who tried to enter her truck, he’d back away quickly or get his hand bitten off.

Her favourite sport was running around the pool and jumping in to get cool, Chasing a cat ,eating to your way to fat, digging a hole in the garden, except for the scolding or rolling in something really disgusting , these were a few of Jess’s favourite things to do.

When our first child arrived Jess’s patience was unbelievable, this toddler would climb all over her, fingers in ears and up noses, as the years flew by another friendship was set in stone, she now had another person to follow, one who will ,chuck you some sand.

Then came a pup, no hers but still a softer side to Jess was seen , for now she was a Mum, training and comforting, gentle, but firm, always looking after him and a great job she did to.

Our second was born the spitting image of his Dad ,by this time Jess was ageing , so a challenge was the Lad, but Toddlers are handy they don’t mind sharing snacks, a lick for you and one for me, Jess was happy with that.

Ageing is a cruel thing, there nothing wrong with the mind but the Ears don’t hear and the eyes almost blind, but the soothing touch of a caring hand makes life worth living, and so does the sand.

Now here I am some 16yrs later with photo’s and memories and tears in my eye’s, for the cancer finished her off, the pain had to stop, so goodbye my old mate, I’ll really miss you.
