Teddy Lion Safe
27 July 1984 – 3 July 2005
Born the last (and definitely the most handsome!) of a litter of six, Teddy Lion came out mewing and wondering where everyone else had gone! His silky ears and feet, the down behind his ears, the way he loved his tummy being rubbed. He loved the sunshine, the doves were his companions, and I don’t believe I’ve every seen anyone so confused as when I suggested he catch a mouse!
He walked like a lion, had felty fur like a soft toy. So refined, so dignified – his intuition, good taste, refinement and independence, gentleness and forcefulness, his authenticity are lessons in themselves. The way he protected us, warned us, the way he would place his paws on me and purr when I was upset …. That quiet, gentle, absolute strength. He reached the unreachable in that I knew he would never hurt me, even if I had to bathe him or give him tablets - he trusted me completely, and loved me unconditionally. My dear companion of twenty-one years, I do believe in a way he guided both my daughter Emily and I in understanding what is really important in life.
In spite of the mourning and absolute grief, there is also a strong, very real sense of Teddy still being with us. We will always remember you Teddy Lion, acknowledge the magnificent being you are, and wish you warmth, light and love eternally. Thank you dear one.
Although Teddy was blessed with good health until close to the end of his time here, at those times when he did need to visit a vet, my heartfelt thanks to Dr Don Nickels, in whom I have complete faith, who had enabled Thomas to live happily for an additional ten years when others doubted, and who has donated funds to the Trust in memory of Teddy Lion.
I also sincerely thank Brooke from Murdoch Veterinary Centre and Dr Belinda Beynon (Epitaph) for their understanding, strength and guidance on the evening of 2 July 2005, when I needed to make possibly the most difficult decision I have ever had to make. I have no doubt that Teddy Lion considered his departure was conducted in an appropriately distinguished, respectful and loving manner. Also my thanks to Lawnswood for their ceremonial handling of Teddy’s funeral needs.
