Hold me softly as I go,
Stroke my head so I will know, that you’re there just for me.
Hold me softly, set me free.
Free from any earthly pain, free to run and play again.

All my life I’ve trusted you, to care for me and right things do.
A warm bed to sleep, a walk each day,
A bone to chew, a ball to play.
Protect you with my life I would, be with you forever if I could.



But now’s the time to let me go free, with dignity and love for me
And even when my body’s gone, my spirit’s with you all along.

A dog lives for the now and here, not for the past or future dear.
So let me suffer not one day, with gladness send me on my way.

Remember the good times we had and please my love, not too sad,
For you mean the world to me
And break my heart if grieved you be.

I’ll always live within your heart and truly we’ll not be apart,
For moments shared cannot be gone, they live in our heart like sweet song.

So softly hold me as I go,
Filled with love so that I know, that you’ve always cared for me.
Unselfish love gives dignity.
One day you know we’ll meet again and what fun we will have then.
Into your hand, my head I’ll place and softly hold you, gaze in your face.

Grieve not my love, together we’ll be, when your time comes for eternity.
I’ll wait for you at heaven’s door, with all the others who’ve gone before.
