Esmerelda Neave
What breed was she? Probably unknown. The first Vet who saw her called her an “odd-eyed white part Persian”, and to change her name from Matthew Flinders because she was a she not a he. His description can easily be seen in photographs. The eye difference was not as noticeable in reality as the photograph seems to indicate. One eye was light blue and the other a pale green.
What can I say about my beloved Esmeralda after 21 years of her company? Having had no previous experience with pets, the result was that she never was a cuddley- lovely cat when she grew up. I do feel better knowing she was well fed and received the care and attention that a series of “Vets” at Rostrata (Willetton) surgery were happy to give her.
“Essie” initially had very acute hearing, in later years she became totally deaf but she would sit just inside the front door waiting for me to come home and always seemed pleased to see me. I always said it beat coming home to an empty house. For many years she had been on thyroid and special diets for urinary and renal problems. In her last few months I think she knew she was failing. She began sleeping on my bed at night and would get very close as she got worse.
I do not think I have ever had or will ever have to make such a hard decision as to ending her life. Maybe it was the kindest and most loving thing I could do for her. I loved her and will never regret the increased care she needed over the years.
Thanks to Willetton (Rostrata) Veterinary surgery for their donation to the Caring for Pets Fund.
Sincerely Yours
Margaret Neave
