Molly Houlihan
1993 - 2007
Molly was the happiest and most intelligent dog I have ever encountered.
She was a runt and when we came across each other, it was love at first sight.
Although it is thought that dogs do not talk, this is a myth. Molly and I communicated all the time, I estimate at least 150 words she understood and although I thought it was her relying on me all these years, what she did for me will never be forgotten.
I took her everywhere I could and even when I had to work and she was at home she was always happy to see me at the end of the day, even when I was tired and grumpy she would bring a ball and before I knew it I would be kicking the ball across the floor for her and then be out in the back yard and before I knew it we would be at the park. All my stresses of the day forgotten. She was very clever indeed.
She never left my side and would always be into everything I was doing. Molly also touched many other people's lives and no-one who encountered her forgot meeting her. Even at her ripe old age of 14 she still loved her tennis balls and was extremely active. She ran this house and we had a mutual respect that meant she could go and do whatever she wanted, she knew it was ok to only take things off the table that belonged to her, she knew it was ok to be on the bed or couch, but not be a hog and affection, care and loyalty flowed free from her in a way that is seldom found in humankind.
Molly is very much missed.
