JOX HAWES
Our family was very touched to receive in the mail a letter from the Murdoch University Veterinary Trust explaining to us that our close friends, The Brower Family, had generously made a financial donation to the “Murdoch University Caring for Pet Fund” in memory of our lovely cat Jox. (What a wonderful cause - and what wonderful friends.)
At Easter (2008 ) our family - John, Gemma, Imogen and I excitedly set off to “The Cat Haven” with the purpose of welcoming a new furry family member into our lives.
We were adopted by a large gorgeous black cat called Jox who was one year old. He came home to live with us and until the day Jox passed away, brought so much joy and happiness into each of our lives.
Jox’ Home Comforts:
Jox loved his home, his family, a great variety of comfortable spots to sleep (e.g. the ironing board and the dining table when no one was watching) and his food! Whenever there was a risk of Jox’ biscuits running low, Jox would seek me out to politely let me know this disturbing situation - and then lead the way to his bowl. This was quite a lengthy process as Jox would stop several times on the way to look over his shoulder to make sure I was following - and express great concern that his food was so low.
Jox’ Entertainment:
Jox loved to have rides on a small carpet around the room - and in boxes too. Jox enjoyed a game with ping pong balls i.e. our family raced around gathering up the ball to bowl to him whilst Jox lay comfortably waiting for the ball to arrive, to kindly pat back to us. Dangling toys on string was fun too, until we discovered that Jox liked to eat the string and wasn’t interested in the toys. Jox also enjoyed sitting on the small carpet in the kitchen whilst I blew bubbles into the air for him to watch. He would then watch the bubbles pop as they burst on the floor.
Jox’ Social Life:
Jox enjoyed visitors as this increased the strokes, pats, cuddles and games. Jox particularly loved our lovely friends, Cindy and Arlen Brower visiting. Jox would get up to welcome them.
Our Happy Life with Jox:
John, Gemma, Imogen and I had many precious times with Jox e.g. wrapping Christmas presents in the early hours of Christmas morning using expensive, exotic ribbons - and finding a cat firmly gripping and dangling at the other end of the carefully formed bow.
The special moments I shared with Jox (which were very precious to me) were when he would come out to the kitchen to visit me. Jox would sit on the small carpet next to me. He would then look up, wiggle his dear, little nose - and start to tell me long stories in great detail. I would lean down and listen to these gorgeous stories. I loved Jox’ stories so much and that he wanted to share them with me.
Jox was a kind, gentle cat and we all loved him very much.
John, Imogen, Gemma and I miss Jox dreadfully. Although our time was brief with Jox, it was MAGIC!
Jox was a true friend and had the heart of an angel.
It has been heartbreaking saying goodbye.
Love from your family,
Judy, John, Gemma, Imogen and “The Boys”.
