Darcy Collie

March 16 2002 - March 16 2009

We were incredibly blessed to have Darcy as our first dog as a couple, he was truly one of a kind. Everyone who met him fell in love with his big brown eyes and gentle nature and even though we are biased he was extremely handsome. When we first brought him home and took him to our vet their first words were "wow he's a big boy, could be more the size of a great dane then a boxer!”. He had huge paws and sure enough grew to be a 40kg boxer. He was the most easy going dog you could ever hope to own, he was such a smoochy pooch, all he wanted was to love and to be loved. Whenever you stood still he would lean all his weight against you and if you were sitting he would try and get on your lap, not easy when he was that size. His greatest time of the day was walkies, we couldn't say the "w" word or touch his lead until it was time to walk out the door or he would cry and stare sadly at you till his lead went on. We seemed to be taking him to the vet a lot when he was young, everything from grass seeds up his nose to allergic reactions from a bee sting. But mostly he was healthy until October last year when he seemed to be lethargic and not as keen to go on his treasured walks. After several trips to the vet we got referred to a veterinary neurologist and after many tests and waiting for months for an MRI that we could never get, he went downhill. It was the saddest time for us, seeing our usual bouncy full of life boy only able to lay around and then go off his food. The hardest day of our lives came when we knew it was cruel to let him suffer any more and we had to say goodbye. Our wonderful vet Martine who loved Darcy almost as much as us volunteered to come in on her day off and put him to sleep with just us and her in the room. We brought our beautiful boy home and laid him to rest under his favourite lemon tree. It was his 7th birthday the day we said goodbye and even though we only had him for 7 years we were truly honoured to have him in our lives. We can't put into words what a fabulous loving dog he was; he didn't have a nasty or vicious bone in his body. His sister Ellis (a 5 year old boxer) couldn't understand where her big brother is and we have now got her a new playmate (a boxer puppy called Carruthers).

Thank you so much to Martine Robert our fabulous vet who gave Darcy such wonderful loving care over the years.
