Lulu Baldwin
12.12.1991 – 30.12.2008
Our Burmese Cat
We picked Lulu up from the breeder when she was 12 weeks old and from that day she shared our home and was a big part of ourfamily, not just for my husband and I but with our extended familyand our friends, they all knew Lulu was the queen of our castle, and how much she was loved.
In early December it became clear that Lulu was terminally ill and going through a final period of withdrawal. This was by no means a suggestion that she was aware of her own mortality, only that her physical decline was enough to produce that kind of response. Her behaviour implied that it was natural for her to reach a stage at which social interaction was limited or even no longer desired. The dignity and grace shown by our dying Lulu may well have been her last gift to us.
Our vet may have been the best judge of Lulu’s physical condition; however, we were the best judge of the quality of her daily life. Lulu was clearly unwell, she was unresponsive to our affection, unaware of her surroundings and uninterested in life. As her owners who loved her dearly we chose to end her suffering and on the 30th December 2008 we asked our vet to put her to sleep. This was truly the final act of love that we made for her.
We buried her among our roses, she sleeps with the flowers. We miss her.
