Tribute to a true white cavalier

He is bright of eye
he's full of grace,
his selfless, generous, love
me humble makes.

With awe stand I
when he o'er ground does race
so effortless seems he to move
what poetry his movement makes.

Apollo Bear his kennel name,
how apt for so magnificent a frame
yet gentle and considerate he
when I am low or weary be.

When threat or danger ere arose
himself he'd always interpose
Ne'er met we any foe who'd care
to risk his stony, level stare.

But love his forte, above all,
and glad his face whene'er I call
the bond between us ever grew
till we were more like one than two.

His joyous welcome homecoming
fair made my soul to jump and sing
But now my days despair does fill, and dread
My wondrous friend, my lovely Bear, is dead.
