A reminder to all staff that VLS Small Research and Equipment/ Software Grants are due today. Giles Hardy will head a panel to review each application. Applicants will be notified in the week beginning 13th April and successful applicants formally announced in the VLS announcements on Friday, 17th April 2015.

  • Premier’s Science Awards – Applications now open with closing date on 10am Monday 18 May - Message from Giles Hardy, Associate Dean Research

    The Premier has opened the 2015 Premier’s Science Awards for applications. These Awards recognise and celebrate the achievements of the Western Australian science community.

    Applications will be open from today until Monday 18 May 10 am 2015, in 4 categories:

    • Scientist of the Year ($50,000)
    • Woodside Early Career Scientist of the Year ($10,000)
    • ExxonMobil Student Scientist of the Year ($10,000)
    • Chevron Science Engagement Initiative of the Year ($10,000)

  • Message for Unit Coordinators regarding tutorial time and location changes - Message from Franklin White, Manager, The Student Centre for action

    Attention all Unit Coordinators - Staff at The Student Centre are not able to change tutorial times/venues or add/remove students from or to different tutorial sessions. Only Unit Coordinators have authority and access to make these changes.

  • Trial - Bentham Science Journals - Message from the Library

    The Library currently has the Bentham Science Journals on trial - this trial runs to June 20, 2015 and provides access to all articles from the 2013-2014 issues of a range of biomedical science journals.

  • Congratulations to Associate Professor Anne Barnes - Message from Warren Timpson, Practice Manager, Veterinary Hospital

    Dr Anne Barnes who has been vetting at equestrian endurance events for many years has just been appointed Chair of the National Endurance Selectors Panel by Equestrian Australia. This is a great example of Murdoch staff being involved with the community and flying our flag to national prominence.

    Well done Anne, a marvellous achievement and something we should all be proud of.

  • Welcome to Dr Nicole Laing - Message from the College of Veterinary Medicine

Nicole is a highly experienced veterinarian (Murdoch grad 1996), and we are very pleased to have her with us.

  • Famelab 2015 WA Heat - 2 VLS staff participating - Message from Kim Culver, Executive Assistant to Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Development)

    Famelab 2015 is on and the WA Heat will be held at the WA Maritime Museum in Fremantle on the 9th April. See flyer here.

    Murdoch University has two participants this year, both from the School of Veterinary and Life Sciences. Navid Moheimani will compete in the heat on the 9th April. Sofie De Meyer has already competed in the NSW heat as she had a date clash for the WA Heat.

    Tickets are free and we would like to see as many people as possible come along to the WA Heat to support Navid.

  • Murdoch University PhD students win BASF Asia-Pacific PhD Challenge - Message from Navid Moheimani, Algae R&D Centre Director

    We are proud to announce that two of Murdoch University's PhD students have won the BASF Asia-Pacific PhD Challenge held in BASF regional headquarters in Shanghai, China between March 24 to 25.

    Mr Ashiwin Vadiveloo (enrolled at VLS, supervisors: Moheimani and Parlevliet)
    Mrs Sofia Chaudry (enrolled at EIT, supervisors: Bahri and Moheimani)

    Their project title for this competition was: 'Sustainable Hydrocarbon Production From Microalgae'.

    This is a great achievement for our students, our collaborative research team (VLS and EIT) and Murdoch University. Ashiwin and Sofia will be heading to Germany in August to compete at the final stage of the competition. For those not aware, BASF owns the largest Algae production facility (high value pigment) based at Hutt Lagoon.

  • Seminar: 'ARC decision making - what happens in the room' – Message from Jane Crier, Manager, Research Grants and Contract Services

    Staff are invited to attend a seminar on May 12, at 10.30-12pm with Professor Edward Scheer, UNSW, who is a member of the ARC College of Experts (HCA panel).

    Professor Scheer provide information on how the panels work and what happens as decisions are being made.

    This presentation will help researchers in the strategic allocation of FoR codes and preparing the project description and summary statement sections of ARC applications.

    Professor Scheer will focus primarily on Discovery projects.
