Information for Honours examiners
The Honours programs at this University concentrate predominantly on the development of research skills which are assessed on the basis of the candidate's thesis. The Honours activity represents the fourth year of an undergraduate degree and will normally be the first time the candidate has undertaken independent research. In the School of Biological Sciences & Biotechnology, it is also expected that the candidate submit an essay that may relate to broader aspects of the research project described in the thesis, and an oral defense of thesis (ODT) is held as part of the examination process once the thesis examination is completed.
The project and thesis normally represents about 70-80 per cent of the student's work concentrated into a period of approximately 8 months duration for a full-time student and 16 months for a part-time student.
