Conservation Medicine

Conservation medicine is an emerging discipline that involves the integration of veterinary science, conservation biology and public health in order to: advance biodiversity conservation; address issues associated with the inter-relationships between human, animal and ecosystem health; and study the effects of global environmental change on these health inter-relationships.

There is increasing recognition that veterinarians have an important role to play within interdisciplinary teams working on environmental conservation projects. The School of Veterinary and Life Sciences at Murdoch University offers undergraduate and postgraduate students the opportunity to undertake studies in the field of conservation medicine.

	South Africa Conservation Medicine field trip This annual trip is based in the Mpumalanga region and includes wildlife game capture and visits to wildlife breeding and rehabilitation centres, Kruger National Park and surrounding community development projects.
	New Zealand Conservation Medicine field trip This annual trip is offered to final year students. The field trip is conducted by the Conservation Medicine Program’s project officer and zoologist Bec Donaldson.
