Refining the ECR-R

Student Researchers: James Clark
Supervisor: Dr Graeme Ditchburn
Ethics approval: 2013/095

The Revised Experiences in Close Relationships questionnaire (ECR-R) can be adversely affected by sample characteristics. This study aimed to develop a shorter version of this questionnaire for use in samples which have been identified as problematic for the ECR-R. Construct validity of the new measure was subsequently tested in participants recruited online who were in a current romantic relationship. Despite potential issues with the anxiety scale of the new measure, support for construct validity was found. With further research, the new measure could provide a suitable alternative to the ECR-R.
