BRD210 World of Sport Guest Lecturers

Justin Langer (WACA Head Coach and Former Australian Cricketer), Andrew Charter (Twice Olympian with Kookaburras - Goalkeeper) and Gabi Nance (Olympian with Hockeyroos - Midfielder) were guest speakers in a question and answer session for World of Sport Unit (BRD210) run through the School of Psychology and Exercise Science, coordinated by Dr Vance Locke and Dr Sean Muller.

The speakers commented on their participation in sport as a child, preparation for competitive sport and socio-cultural aspects of their sport. For example, in relation to participation, competition in sports with siblings and family members that loved sport was a key feature.

In relation to preparation, their desire to learn from mentors and continually improve components of their motor, psychological or physiological skills even at the elite level was discussed. Students and staff in attendance were given the opportunity to ask questions about team culture and the role of the coach. It was a privilege to hear their thoughts and experiences with sport.
