Chief Justice

Malcolm.Jezewski.jpgMalcolm Jezewski

Malcolm Jezewski   is currently in his final year of a double degree in Law and Commerce, majoring in Finance. In 2009, he spent several weeks studying at Zhengzhou University in China and will be graduating with a Postgraduate Certificate in Chinese Law. Malcolm first participated in mooting during the 2010 Freehills Senior Mooting Competition, where he progressed to the semi-finals. Since then, he has competed in the 2011 Phillip C. Jessup Public International Law Moot and is currently a member of Murdoch’s 2011 IT and Privacy Law Moot team. Malcolm is a strong advocate of mooting as he believes it really helps develop the academic and practical skills that will give students an edge when they enter the legal environment. Outside of university, Malcolm has maintained a love for fitness and training, eating unhealthy amounts of Nando’s and spending a weeks’ wage over a single weekend.

Excutive Justice

David Herbert joins the Moot Court Bench in his final year of University. He has competed in a wide range of competitions, including client interview, negotiations, trial advocacy, junior mooting and paper presentation. In 2010 David represented Murdoch University in the ALSA Paper Presentation competition, managing to win the competition, resulting in consecutive victories for Murdoch University in this national competition. David has a strong interest in corporate and mining law and hopes to practice in these fields following graduation. David’s involvement in MCB this year will include representing Murdoch as part of the IASLA Space Law Moot Court Competition, and providing coaching and judging assistance to the various competitions he has participated in throughout his university experience.

Alex.McVey.jpgAlex McVey

Alex McVey  is currently in his second year of combined Law and Arts (History) degrees. He is the 2011 Secretary for the Murdoch Student Law Society, as well as being a team member of the 2011 Murdoch International Maritime Law Arbitration Moot Team. Alex has participated in several MSLS Competitions and, with Veronica Burns, won the 2010 Junior Client Interview Competition. Having competed in both the 2010 MSLS Junior Trial Advocacy and the 2010 Torts Moot, and having a passion for acting, Alex has found love with the practice of Trial Advocacy and Mooting. This interest prompted Alex to join the Moot Court Bench so that he may develop and improve his advocacy skills. Outside of University, Alex unwinds by spending time with his friends, watching movies and getting involved with the Murdoch Theatre Company.

Ashleigh Boyce  is currently in her fourth year of a combined Law/Politics degree. Her mooting experience began with junior mooting and since then she has competed in all the MSLS competitions at Murdoch University. Ashleigh was a member of the Murdoch team that were runners-up in the 2011 International ADR Moot, and was awarded the runner-up prize for best speaker in the general rounds of the competition. Ashleigh joined Moot Court Bench to further her mooting experience and to help teach others about mooting and other competitions at Murdoch. Outside of university Ashleigh enjoys studying and playing hockey.

Jessica.Brandham.jpgJessica Brandham

Jessica Brandham is in her fourth year of a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Commerce double degree, majoring in Professional Accounting. Jessica successfully participated in the 2010 Invitational Mediation Tournament, being part of the third-ranked team and being ranked as the second-top individual mediator after the preliminary rounds. Jessica has joined the Moot Court Bench to develop her own mooting skills and help teach others about mooting at Murdoch. Jessica has also participated in the Macerata Summer Program, is the Vice President of the Murdoch Business Club, and will be competing in the 2011 International ADR Moot Competition. Outside university Jessica enjoys spending time with family and friends.

Molly Greenfeld  is in her second year of a Bachelor of Laws. Molly first became interested in advocacy in 2010, when she entered the Corrs Chambers Westgarth Junior Trial Advocacy Competition. In the beginning of her second year, she entered the Freehills Senior Mooting Competition and reached the Grand Final. Also during that semester Molly entered and won the Blake Dawson Trial Advocacy Competition. As a result she represented Murdoch at the ALSA Witness Examination Championship in 2011. Molly aspires to become a member of an International Moot Team during her time at Murdoch. Outside of University, Molly’s main passion is travelling overseas and plans to next visit Canada or Turkey.

Benjamin Holloway  is in his third year of a double degree in Law and Commerce with majors in Human Resource Management and Finance. Benjamin was a grand-finalist in last years Trial Advocacy competition and a semi-finalist in last year’s Senior Mooting competition and the McCusker Trial Advocacy competition. Outside of university Ben is an avid Fremantle Dockers fan.

Jonathon Horne is currently in his third year of a combined LLB/BA (Politics and International Studies). He became interested in mooting by competing in Torts Moot and this interest was further developed by Senior Mooting in second year. More recently Jonathon has participated in the International Air and Space Law Moot Court Competition. He hopes that Moot Court Bench will provide an opportunity to show other students the benefits of mooting in addition to the obvious benefits of gaining practise in advocacy.

Outside of University Jonathon plays bassoon (the lowest woodwind instrument) in a range of ensembles including the Western Australian Youth Orchestra, a wind quintet and the Armadale City Concert Band. Although Jon does not get a lot of free time what little he does get is spent with family, friends and reading as many books as possible

Alanah Murphy is currently in her third year of a double degree in law and media. Alanah has been interested in mooting since her arrival at Murdoch University and was a Grand Finalist in the 2009 Junior Trial Advocacy competition. She is currently the Competitions Vice President of the Murdoch Law Student Society and has been selected as a member of the 2011 Willem C Vis International Commercial Arbitration Mooting team.

Isabella Skuthorp  is in her penultimate year of a double degree of Law and Mass Communications. Isabella was selected for the 2008 International Maritime Law & Arbitration Moot, and was a Semi-Finalist in the MSLS Junior Mooting Competition. Outside of university Isabella hopes to further herself by learning Mandarin.

Patrick Williams is in his fourth year of a double degree in Law and Economics. He has competed in a plethora of competitions whilst at university, such as mooting, negotiations and trial advocacy. In 2011, Patrick also won the Allens Arthur Robinson Senior Client Interview competition. Patrick is also the Social Vice-President of the Murdoch Student Law Society. He continues his role as an Associate Justice of the Moot Court Bench with the hope improving his mooting and advocacy skills, as well as encouraging the promotion of a mooting culture within the Law School. Outside of university life, Patrick enjoys music, sports and letting his ego write cheques his body cannot cash.

Liz Wreck is in her fourth year studying BA Law/Politics and International Studies. Liz has competed in Client Interview, Trial Advocacy (Runner up McCusker 2010 with Vlada Lemaic) and Mooting (Senior Mooting, grand finalist in Torts Moot 2009). Liz is enthusiastic about advocacy and took advantage of Murdoch Law School’s competitions early on in her studies. Liz has decided to join MCB, with an aim to encourage students to take up the challenge and learn to develop a practical approach to problem solving outside of the lecture theatre. Outside of university Liz is a singer/songwriter and performs in various Perth venues regularly.

Sarah Ozanne is currently in her penultimate year of a double degree in Law with a double minor in Politics and Accounting. Sarah has a passion for Trial Advocacy and her competition experience has mostly been within this field. Sarah joined the Moot Court Bench in order to further her own knowledge of Mooting and to help introduce others to Mooting, as well as all the other competitions Murdoch University has to offer. Outside of university, Sarah rides horses and is an accredited show jumping judge. Sarah also has a passion for music, regularly appears in theatrical productions, and is a trained classical singer.

Liam Nicholls s in his penultimate year of a double degree in Law and Commerce, majoring in Human Resource Management. Liam has competed in several Murdoch competitions, including the torts, junior and senior moots and the negotiations competition. Liam's team was runner up in the 2010 Murdoch Invitational Mediation Tournament. With his teammate (Oralee Logan) Liam won the 2010 McCusker Trial Advocacy Competition. In 2011 Liam competed in the International ADR Moot in Hong Kong. In joining MCB, Liam hopes to encourage as many students as possible to get involved in competitions. Outside of university, Liam enjoys anything music related - whether it is listening, creating or performing (but not dancing) .
