Chief Justice

Sarah Robinson  is the Chief Justice of the Moot Court Bench for Semester 1, 2007. Within her studies, she is particularly interested in Constitutional Law and the Law of Evidence. Sarah is employed casually by Blake Dawson Waldron and enjoys working as a horse riding instructor on Saturday mornings. Sarah’s work on the Bench last semester involved scripting an educational mooting film for first year law students. Writing the film enabled Sarah to use her media skills to further her law degree. The film’s production is underway, with exceptional crew and talent working on the project. Sarah has been involved in producing, writing and directing short films as an aspect of her Media degree. Sarah and her crew were awarded third place in the SafeZone National Film Festival last year.

Excutive Justice

Greg Mackay is a Law/Politics student, in his penultimate year. He has competed in both the junior and the senior mooting competitions, and represented Murdoch Law School in the 2005 Tri-Law Moot and the 2006 Deans List Forum. He has also participated in the client interview and negotiation competitions. As a member of the Moot Court Bench, Greg hopes to build on Murdoch’s mooting reputation and expose more students to the benefits of competition.

Associate Justice

Andrea Hampton is currently in her penultimate year of the Graduate Bachelor of Laws program at Murdoch University. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Justice Studies and Business Law from Edith Cowan University. Andrea has a keen interest in criminal law and has clerked extensively for notable barristers, and is now looking forward to working for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in November. Andrea is also a tutor for the Equity Office of Murdoch University and a freelance classical piano instructor. She enjoys mooting and hopes that her position on the moot court bench will increase her understanding of court room advocacy and provide valuable experience for the future.

Johanna Weaver is currently in her 4th year of a double degree in Law and Political and International Studies. She was the winner of the 2006 Freehills Senior Mooting Competition and was a member of the Murdoch Mooting Team at ALSA this year: finishing in the top 4 teams at the conference. Johanna is also part of the Murdoch’s 2006/07 Willem C Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot team and looks forward to developing Murdoch’s mooting reputation on an international scale.
With a particular interest in International Law, in 2005 Johanna participated in an exchange program to Uppsala University, Sweden, where she studied International Law and had many amazing and invaluable experiences.

Johanna is very excited to be a member to the Moot Court Bench and intends to use her time increasing the number and quality of students who participate in mooting by showing them that while mooting is intense and challenging it is also exhilarating, exciting and a lot of fun!

brett.jpgBrett Turton

Brett Turton is a final year student on the graduate LLB. In partnership with Martin Danger, Brett won the Allens Arthur Robinson client interview competition. Brett also competed in the grand final of Freehills senior mooting and represented Murdoch as a competitor at the ALSA conference in 2006.
Brett’s main interest is banking and finance law as he has 12 years working experience in the Insurance, Banking and Finance sectors in South Africa, Europe and the United States.

As a member of the Moot Court Bench, Brett aims to develop his skills and pass on his knowledge in advocacy to other law students. As an avid Rugby supporter, you could also ask Brett to pass on his tips about Super 14 and Rugby World Cup. Stephanie believes that mooting is an excellent way for students to apply their academic skills in practice, and is invaluable experience for anyone considering a career in litigation.

Maria Tang is in her fifth year of a combined degree in Law and Asian Studies (Japanese Specialist). She has been a keen advocate of mooting since first year, especially now on an international scale. Earlier this year, she represented Murdoch University at the 2007 Philip C Jessup International Law Moot in Canberra. In 2003, Maria received the Vice Chancellor's Award for Academic Excellence. In her other international experiences, she has studied at a University in Tokyo for one year and worked for a Japanese law firm. She is also currently working as an intern to the Consulate-General of Japan in Perth. Maria would like to encourage mooting at Murdoch as she believes it really helps students develop important academic and practical skills, which she feels will give them an edge later in life.

Tamara Watson  is in her penultimate year of graduate law. In 2005 she completed a LLS majoring in Criminology and Political and Internationals Studies at Murdoch University . Tamara is currently working as a paralegal at the Employment Law Centre of WA and says that working in a Community Law Centre is an extremely rewarding experience. Tamara was a semi-finalist in the 2006 junior mooting competition. As a member of the 2007 Moot Court Bench, Tamara aims to build on and develop a strong mooting culture at Murdoch University.

Vanja Tekic is currently in her 3 rd year at Murdoch University pursuing a double degree in Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Politics and International Studies. She has been involved in mooting since her first year; including junior and senior mooting. In her second year Vanja was a member of the Murdoch team at the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. She hopes to encourage other students to participate in the mooting experience, especially on the international scale.
