School of Law

School of Law combined degrees

A legal education is more than just knowledge, it’s about curiosity. It’s about understanding and being able to relate your studies to all aspects of life. Legal questions emerge from every aspect of human behaviour; criminal law to international trade, from business to human rights law, from constitutional to commercial law.

As well as providing the foundation for legal practice, the study of law develops skills in critical thinking and analysis that are valued in a range of professions; from Journalism, Politics and Business to Economics and the Diplomatic Corps.

Likewise, the skills you gain from a second degree can complement your legal skills and enhance both your law degree and career prospects. Murdoch University gives you an opportunity to combine a Murdoch Law degree with a Bachelor of Arts or Business or Science with many interesting and rewarding majors. A combined Law degree usually only takes an extra year, as core units from both degrees are integrated within the five years.

Our combined degrees

A combined degree is when a student works towards satisfying academic requirements for two separate degrees. Units of study from both courses are taken in an integrated fashion and usually only add one extra year to a single degree. Double degrees increase skills and knowledge across two different learning areas and result in more career options and choices (as you will be awarded two separate degrees).

For example, a student studying a Bachelor of Law and Bachelor of Business (major in Accounting) would graduate with two degrees and the qualifications to pursue a career as either a Lawyer or an Accountant.

Double majors

A double major is when a student is enrolled in a single Bachelor degree, while completing units from two separate majors. Students will complete the units from the two areas in an integrated fashion and complete the double major within the standard degree timeframe (usually three years). Upon graduation, the student will receive one Bachelor’s degree with recognition of both majors.

For example, a student enrolled in a Bachelor of Arts choses to major in both Criminology and Legal Studies. The student would complete the single degree in three years and replace “general elective” units with units from Legal Studies in order to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Criminology and Legal Studies.
