Our Research
Our mission within the School of Environmental Science is to share knowledge and research that can help resolve environmental problems, and to serve community needs.
Across the themes of air, land, water, biota, people, policy and technology, our research projects aim to improve industrial efficiency while protecting the natural environment, and develop cost-effective approaches to prevent problems in the future.
Our research groups and centres include:
- Aquatic Ecosystems Research Group – Our research group explores wetlands, riverine and estuarine systems and their biota.
- Land Management Group – Our focus is on developing solutions for the sustainable management of agricultural, mining and conservation land.
- Marine Management Research Group – We work closely with a range of industry partners in marine protected areas, coastal fisheries, coastal management and other areas of marine science.
- Nature Based Tourism Research Group – Our challenge is to conserve the environment while providing tourists with great travel experiences.
- Terrestrial Ecology Research Group – We explore population and community ecology, with a focus on biodiversity and fire.
