ATTENTION ALL SECONDARY, PRIMARY & EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION STUDENTS

OPPORTUNITY FOR FINAL YEAR 10 WEEK PRACTICUM PLACEMENT IN REGIONAL (RURAL/ REMOTE) SCHOOLS

Funded opportunities exist for Bachelor of Education (2016 final year) and Grad. Dip. students  to be considered for practicum placements for their final 10 week block prac in Regional (rural/ remote) government schools in the Kimberley, Pilbara, Mid-West, Esperance and Goldfields Regions. Priority for funded places will be given to pre-service teachers of Maths or Science.

Earn while you learn

If you are placed, you can apply for funding through the Department of Education's Rural Teaching Program (RTP).  This includes:

  • Funds to travel to location (equivalent of airfare);
  • Stipend of up to $290 p/wk during placement, subject to location;
  • Local accommodation (usually billeting) if needed;
  • Orientation course, resources, site visit (Pilbara/ Kimberley) and Debrief Program.
    *must be an Australian Permanent Resident (or New Zealand citizen) to qualify

    NOTE: The Department approves eligible funding applications approximately 4-6 weeks prior to when practicum placements actually occur each term in case there is a withdrawal for any reason. Please liaise directly with your practicum coordinator and complete the form for submission in Term 2 next year, for a placement in Term 3.
    The 2017 RTP Program Application Form will be available for download on the Department website by the commencement of Term 1, 2017. However, you are not required to submit an application form for funding until after Term 2 commences.

NOTE
– You can still apply if you are planning to enrol in the Grad. Dip, but have not yet been formally accepted. Email ProfessionalExperience@murdoch.edu.au for more information.

You will need to prepare a statement about yourself and your teaching philosophy based on your personal and professional experience, your studies, your skills, what you have to offer schools and what you hope to achieve by participating in the internship.

Once your practicum has been confirmed by Murdoch, you will need to complete and send in the Department of Education application form no later than four weeks before your practicum is due to start.
