ATTENTION ALL SECONDARY, PRIMARY & EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION STUDENTS

OPPORTUNITY FOR FINAL YEAR 10 WEEK PRACTICUM PLACEMENT IN BURRINGURRAH REMOTE COMMUNITY SCHOOL

Funded opportunities exist for Bachelor of Education (2016 final year) and Grad. Dip. students  to be considered for 2016 practicum placements for their final 10 week block prac at Burringurrah Remote Community School. The community is about a 5 hour drive from Carnarvon and about 4 hours from Meekatharra (on partly unsealed roads). It is also home to the giant Mt Augustus (Burringurrah). The placement is across all areas from K-10, including HPE (Health & Physical Education). Teacher accommodation and travel costs are provided, with the possibility of also receiving Department of Education RTP funding (for 10 week placements only). 

Students with a desire to teach in remote schools upon graduation are encouraged to apply.

3rd year students - 2 week placement

There may also be opportunities to have 2 week placements arranged at the school for 3rd year Education students. NOTE: All travel (including flights to & from Geraldton) and food costs are the responsibility of the student.

About the School

The community is medium sized remote Aboriginal community. The school is well equipped with resources and has a dynamic and passionate staff who would offer an immersion in remote teaching in an Aboriginal community. There will be opportunities to engage in ‘on country’ learning with Elders as part of the school curriculum.

Earn while you learn

If you are placed for a 10 WEEK PLACEMENT, you can apply for funding through the Rural Teaching Program (RTP) and other support. This includes:

  • Funds to travel to location (equivalent of airfare);
  • Stipend of up to $290 p/wk during placement, subject to location;
  • Local accommodation (usually billeting) if needed;
  • Orientation course, resources, site visit (Pilbara/ Kimberley) and Debrief Program.

    *must be an Australian Permanent Resident (or New Zealand citizen) to qualify

How to apply

You will need to prepare a statement about yourself and your teaching philosophy based on your personal and professional experience, your studies, your skills, what you have to offer schools and what you hope to achieve by participating in the internship.

For 10 week placements, you will also need to complete and send in the Department of Education application form no later than four weeks before your practicum is due to start.
