PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR TEACHERS

SUMMER SCHOOL - January 2017

Develop professional expertise and have the option to build your qualifications through a range of professional development short courses, designed to meet the contemporary needs of the education sector and those working within it. Upon completion, all participants will receive certification of attendance, which can contribute towards AITSL’s (Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership) Standard 6: Professional Engagement.

Delivered by professional practitioners and leading academics, our suite of short courses being offered for Summer School 2017 include:

Teaching the Arts – 3 days- Jan 18th to 20th

As of 2018, Teaching the Arts will have full implementation requirements in WA schools. Explore how to teach the arts , unpack the WA Arts Curriculum (P-10) and plan for Arts integration with hands-on workshops provided by teaching artists from Dance, Drama, Media Arts, Music, Visual Arts.

Explore how bringing mindfulness strategies and techniques into your classroom can facilitate your students’ academic learning, and also develop their social and emotional skills.

Tribes TLC® Basic Course Certification – 4 days – Jan 17th to 20th

Attain emotionally safe and highly collaborative learning environments by establishing the Tribes agreements for a new pattern of interaction in a range of classroom settings.

Mentoring – 5 days – Jan 16th to 20th

Enhance knowledge and skill as a mentor teacher or guide and explore different models of mentoring and their applications. FREE for teachers with experience in mentoring Murdoch education students (and for those interested).

Teaching Handwriting, Reading & Spelling - 2 days– Jan 16th & 17th

Develop teaching skills in literacy using phonetics instruction, with this introductory foundation level course as delivered by the THRASS Institute (WA). Also useful for teaching ESL learners and students with Dyslexia or other Specific Learning Difficulties.

Creed & Sacraments in Catholic Schools (EDN232) - 7 days - Jan 5th to 13th

This unit / course  explores the core beliefs of the Catholic tradition expressed in 'creeds of faith' and the place of the religious celebrations known as 'sacraments' in the life of the Catholic community. Knowledge and understanding of 'creed' and 'sacraments' will be linked to the teaching of the Religious Education Program (K-12) used in Catholic schools in Western Australia. This is one of three Catholic Studies Units currently offered at Murdoch University that assist Education students meet the tertiary study requirements of accreditation to teach in a Catholic school.
