Facilities

Our laboratory is equipped to provide analytical and preparative research at high levels of sensitivity. Using a range of validated and in-house methods, we provide an array of elemental analysis, solid phase extraction and ultra high resolution analysis for both polar and non-polar compounds.

We have an in-depth knowledge of analytical techniques for compound characterisation in agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, veterinary products, food sources, environmental sources, microbial detection and many others. In addition, the laboratory has a successful track record of customized method development under strict compliance guidelines.

Our GC-based instruments include:

  • GC with multiple detectors (FID, TCD, NPD, FPD, PFPD, ECD)
  • GCMS Q (EI, PCI & NCI)
  • GCMS IT - tandem in time (EI, Adduct CI MS/MS, MS/MS/MS)
  • GCMS QQQ - tandem in space (EI, PCI, NCI, MS/MS, neutral loss, multiple reaction monitoring)
  • GCxGC TOF MS (EI, very high resolution chromatography)
  • Automated static head space & solid phase micro extraction

Our LC-based instruments include:

  • HPLC with DAD & ELSD & FC (variable wavelength UV, UV/vis)
  • LCMS IT - tandem in time (Capillary)
  • LCMS QQQ - tandem in space (ESI, APCI, MS/MS, neutral loss, multiple reaction monitoring)
  • CE ICPMS (for both GC and LC)

ICPMS

The 7500 ICPMS is configured for ultra-trace metal analysis in a variety of high matrix sample types including environmental, food, biomedical, petrochemical and geological.

Imaging MS

Murdoch University has recently acquired a new Waters Synapt G2 Imaging Mass Spectromer, a powerful high performance mass spectrometer ideal for biopharmaceutical, metabolite identification, metabonomics, proteomics, biomarker studies and food and environmental applications.
