WA State Government congratulates Murdoch
Western Australia's Science and Innovation Minister Troy Buswell has congratulated Murdoch University on its new $25 million state and federal government-funded National Centre of Excellence in Desalination at its Rockingham Campus.
Minister Buswell said the WA state government’s contribution of up to $5 million would boost Murdoch University’s research on securing this state’s future water supply.
“Water is a very important resource and the state government is committed to supporting the next phase of research into new and improved desalination technologies,” he said.
“Western Australia is already home to the nation’s first major desalination plant in Kwinana and a second one will be located in the South-West.
“This new funding will boost our desalination research capability, enhance our research relationships and help attract private sector research into WA.”
Mr Buswell said the research undertaken at the new Centre would directly benefit the state’s desalination facilities now and into the future.
“The high quality of our research will benefit facilities all around the world and lift WA’s global research profile,” he said.
“The Federal Government‘s commitment recognises the state’s existing strengths and capabilities in desalination and I congratulate Murdoch University for building on these strengths.”
