Free talk by leading UK environmentalist

Leading UK environmentalist Professor Jules Pretty OBE will speak at Murdoch University on Thursday, July 2, on Sustainability and Surviving the Perfect Storm: Will it be Convergence or Divergence?

The Professor of Environment and Society at the University of Essex’s Department of Biological Sciences is a regular speaker and contributor to media, and presenter of the 1999 BBC Radio 4 series Ploughing Eden. He is also Chief Editor of the International Journal of Agricultural Sustainability.

“The world and its cultures and environments face unprecedented challenges in the coming two to three decades,” Professor Pretty said.

“Consumption-driven stresses on food systems, nature, water and energy are likely to put many cultures and economies under serious threat.

“What then can be learned about divergent patterns of living that emphasise connections to land and nature?”

The free talk is part of the 2009 Keith Roby Memorial public lecture, to be held at the Kim E Beazley Lecture Theatre on Murdoch’s South Street campus from 6 – 8pm on July 2.

Bookings are essential by Friday, June 26, and can be made through Murdoch University’s Events on (08) 9360 6176 or rsvp@murdoch.edu.au.
