2009 Excellence in Research Awards

The 2009 Vice Chancellor's Excellence in Research Awards have been awarded to the following recipients:

Excellence in Research Award for Early Career Development and Achievement

Senior lecturer in Mass Communication, Dr Amanda Third has been given this award, which acknowledges early career researchers who have demonstrated a rapidly advancing research career ahead of what would be considered normal for the stage of their career.

An early career researcher is defined as one who is either currently within his/her first eight years of academic or other research related employment, allowing for uninterrupted and stable research development, following completion of postgraduate research training or currently employed at Senior Lecturer level or below.

Dr Third will receive a medal and $2500 to support her research endeavours.

Excellence in Research Award for Outstanding Research Development

Senior lecturer in Sociology and Community Development, Dr Farida Fozdar has been acknowledged for her exceptional research performance and a growing role in research leadership over the previous five to 10 years.

Dr Fozdar will receive a medal and $2500 to support her research endeavours.

Excellence in Research Award for Distinguished and Sustained Achievement

Professor of Microbiology and Immunobiology, David Hampson has received the University's premier award for research. It recognises the research achievements of a distinguished researcher who has provided sustained research performance and leadership over the previous ten to twenty years.

Professor Hampson will receive a medal and $5000 to support his research endeavours.

Murdoch University’s Deputy Vice Chancellor Research, Professor Jim Reynoldson, congratulated the award recipients on behalf of the University community.
