How to apply
As a Study Abroad student, you can choose from the many units offered by the University, provided that you meet pre-requisite studies.
How credit for study is calculated
At credit for study is calculated on the basis of points awarded for each unit a student completes.
- Units are normally worth three or four points each
- Students generally select between three to four units of three-four points each to make up a full-time load.(This should transfer to a full-time load at your home institution; however you should confirm this with the Study Abroad office at your home institution.)
- A full-time student enrols in nine - 12 points per semester. The maximum full-time study load for an academic semester is 12 points.
If you wish to undertake additional credit points, you will be charged accordingly.
A guide to choosing your units
Selection of units takes place during orientation at Murdoch, however, it is recommended that you have an idea of what you want to study prior to arrival in Australia
1. Download your application form and your Unit worksheet
2. Choose your units:
- Units are listed in unit code order and organised under the different Schools of Study.
- Select the units you wish to study.
3. Check the semester in which the units are offered:
- Semester Option: S1 = Semester I (February to June)
- Semester Option: S2 = Semester II (August to November)
- Semester Option Y = Full Academic Year Unit (Starts in February and ends in November)
4. Check the campus at which the unit is offered:
- The vast majority of units are offered at the main South Street campus at Murdoch
5. Check how many points the units are worth and the level of the unit:
- Some units are subject to a quota and have limited enrolments so gaining a place can be difficult.
- Generally you should plan to take units starting with ‘1’ or ‘2’ depending on your level of preparation.
6. Read the unit descriptions - do you meet the pre-requisites?
- If the unit has pre-requisites you will need to demonstrate how you meet these requirements. While your academic record usually gives a good indication of this, in some cases you may have to supply descriptions of the units you have completed.
7. Submit your completed application form and Unit worksheet to Murdoch University or your local overseas representative
8. Discuss your unit selections with your home institution:If you need more information you should contact the Study Abroad Office at Murdoch University or the organisation through which you are applying.
9. Bring an up-to-date academic transcript with you to Murdoch.
