I haven't studied in a while

If you haven't studied since you left school or it's been a while since you were a student, we'll help you adjust to student life.

If you’re worried about fitting in, don't be: more than 60% of our students are over the age of 19. As a "mature age" student, you have more life experience than a school leaver to give you a greater understanding of why you are coming to university and probably more motivation to complete your studies!

We'll help you learn how to learn

As part of your degree, you'll need to complete a Foundation Unit which will help to build your skills and teach you the basics of studying at university level. You'll learn:

  • how to write an essay
  • how to reference properly
  • how to participate in tutorials.

You can choose other introductory units which will allow you to understand more about uni culture and help to build your communication skills and confidence. If you need further training in areas like maths and science, there are introductory units for those areas too.

Free courses and other student support

  • Our Student Learning Centre offers free courses in time management, getting organised and studying effectively to help make the most of your study time.
  • We have a dedicated First Year Experience Coordinator to act as a central point of contact if you need emotional, academic or financial support in your first year at Murdoch.
  • Our Equity, Access and Diversity team can provide you with extra support if you have a disability, a low income, or you’re from a rural or remote location.
