Equity and Social Inclusion
Murdoch University has a long and distinguished history of increasing the diversity of its student intake. Each year the University encourages onto its campuses, people from culturally diverse backgrounds, those with special needs, people completing high school education and mature age entrants. We believe that having such a broad diversity enriches the educational experience for all of us, allowing perspectives that may well have been absent otherwise.
We encourage prospective students to access the University through a broad range of pathways, and indeed find that some of our most successful graduates (in the broadest sense) come form non-traditional backgrounds.
To support this broad range of students, as well as the usual student’s services, we have established an Equity and Social Inclusion Office that is specifically responsible for ensuring the provision of entry and support services for a number of these diverse groups, particularly those people with disabilities, those on low incomes, people from rural or remote locations, and those who have arrived in Australia as refugees.
In addition, Aboriginal people are welcomed and encouraged to access services at Equity and Social Inclusion or access us via the Kulbardi Aboriginal Education Centre which also provides a number of alternative entry programs and support for indigenous and Torres Strait Islander students.
A full listing of all of the services that Equity and Social Inclusion provide or can give advice about can be seen on their website.
